Berkeley

Cedar Rose Park is Berkeley's flagship venue — four dedicated outdoor courts with city-run online booking, and by far the busiest place to play in town. James Kenney Park backs it up with one lighted court near downtown. A couple of other parks get mentioned informally, but the city's facilities list doesn't confirm them.

Berkeley's real flagship court, and one the city's own directory previously missed. Four dedicated outdoor hard courts with permanent lines and nets: three bookable through the city's CivicRec system in up to 2-hour blocks between 8am and 8pm, plus a free walk-up court (#4) reportedly opening around 2pm — a recurring community claim, not an official one. Cost is $7/hour for residents, $8 for non-residents, with reduced rates for youth, seniors, and people with disabilities. Court hours run narrower than the park's 6am–10pm gate hours, "in consideration of neighbors." On-site: wheelchair access, restrooms, a water fountain, and quieter balls for noise mitigation. Six-plus independent sources call this the most popular place to play in Berkeley.

1 outdoor hard court Dedicated, lighted, practice wall Level: Not specified Hours: 8am–8pm
SurfaceHigh — dedicated, permanent net and lines
LevelNot specified
WeatherMild flatland Berkeley, occasional bay-adjacent fog
WaitMedium — no clear crowd signal either way

One dedicated outdoor hard court with a permanent net and lines, lighted for evening play, plus a practice wall for solo warm-ups. Berkeley's own materials disagree on whether it's reservable or walk-up only — call ahead to confirm before you plan around a specific time.

Two more spots — reported informally, not on the city's official list

Grove Park and San Pablo Park both get mentioned as pickleball spots in community sources, but the City of Berkeley's own facilities page lists both as tennis-only, with no pickleball listed at either. Informal or scheduled open play can exist without making an official list, but treat these as unconfirmed compared to Cedar Rose and James Kenney. Call ahead before a special trip.

More options — call ahead to confirm

San Pablo Park 2800 Park Street, Berkeley, CA 94702 Directions ↗ City lists tennis-only: 2 reservable + 4 walk-up, practice wall Same caveat as Grove Park — no pickleball confirmed on the official court list. Call ahead (510-981-6150) before a special trip.
